Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow
Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow, is a Swedish-Gambian visual artist. Her work centres on women characters and explores themes of ancestry and identity, reflecting her mixed heritage. Raised by her Gambian father and Swedish mother, Jallow draws inspiration from her maternal lineage of creatives. Known for her mixed-media paintings, Jallow combines thread, oil, and acrylic, using threads to symbolise familial bloodlines and connect her subjects to their heritage. Through vibrant colours and textures, she addresses the underrepresentation of women like herself and navigates the complexities of multiple cultural identities.
